Jar

My foray into large scale work started out with this series. The process challenged me beyond just my throwing skills and made me explore various other facets of ceramics – understanding a wood fired kiln at a deeper level, glazing, working with textures, loading; and the list goes on.

Vessel forms have always fascinated me. They are so simple and so complex at the same time. The textural quality of the surface transforms the piece into a relic – into a treasure from another life time. I have strived to re-create the earthy tones I find in soil and rocks, and the intricate network of cracks that appear on the surface of dry parched earth.

Simple forms, heavy textures blend together in perfect harmony to transform the work.
